You’ll never…
- finish the London Marathon if you don’t train
- win Wimbledon if you don’t spend 1,000s of hours out on those practice courts
- complete a Toughmudder if you’re not fit enough
- make significant inroads into your handicap if you don’t practice
- be able to swim unless you learn
- or play at the Royal Albert Hall unless you dedicate hours to crafting your skill
OK, I know these are all rather lofty goals, but the point is, you can’t achieve something if you’re not prepared to put in the time to look after yourself and take care of early onset of injury…
It doesn’t matter what New Year’s resolutions you’ve decided on to make yourself fitter and more successful this year if you don’t:
A) invest the time to “Prehab” take measures to prevent injury.
AND
b) TAKE ACTION AND IMPLEMENT AN INTELLIGENT PREVENTATIVE REGIME…
I’m sorry guys, it ain’t going to happen. You can’t increase your fitness goals at least not predictably and consistently, WITHOUT TAKING CARE.
It’s like wanting to run a marathon without being prepared to train for it!
You wouldn’t run your car without regular maintenance so why would you ignore what your body is telling you?
The trouble is, many of us feel uncomfortable looking after ourselves or will rely on self-medication: paracetamol, codeine, naproxen, ibuprofen… etc, etc… So we self-sabotage.
We convince ourselves that there are other things we would be better to spend our time and money on (better trainers? Strapping? YouTube advice and Dr. Google)… We’ve all been there.
So if there’s one New Year’s resolution you make this year, make it to get intelligently fitter and take action on early onset of a potentially long term injury.
Appropriate treatment for those tiresome niggles will save you hours of wasted training time, relief from the psychological impact of losing precious training time and stress. You will return to full fitness quicker with minimum losses to training adaptations…
Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional… Give your body some respect and act now!
