Treating Shoulder and Rotator Cuff Pain

Shoulder impingement and rotator cuff pains are some of the main causes of shoulder pains. There are 4 muscles that make up the rotator cuff muscles, also known as the musculotendinous cuff. They help to hold the head of the humerus in the glenoid fossa during movements at the shoulder joint and contribute to the stability of the shoulder joint.
These muscles fix themselves from the shoulder blade to the humerus at various angles and may be prone to injury if not strengthened and stretched correctly, this can lead to shoulder pain, shoulder injuries or other neck-shoulder pains such as Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres major/minor and Subscapularis.
What causes shoulder pains?
The shoulder joint has a wide range of movements where the essential strength depends on the condition of muscles and ligaments. Shoulder joint movements also require movement between the shoulder blade and ribs – and the two ends of the collar bone.
Overuse injuries such as shoulder injuries, shoulder tendon injuries and shoulder blade injuries may affect these areas specifically in throwing activities, racket sports or DIY work such as painting.
Vital nerves and blood vessels are in the armpit and supply the arm and hands so altered sensations such as pins and needles may be experienced as a result.
