Kinesio Taping aids the lymphatic system, the nervous system and the muscular system. Most musculoskeletal conditions are multifactorial in nature and the presence of pain can be debilitating for the client and a challenge to the therapists.
The immediate response to pain and the tension/load created from the unique tape application provides an innovative analgesic effect for a prolonged period thereby creating comfort and ease and functionality.
The method radically reduces recovery times and improves fitness levels no matter what activity.
It is a unique way to create an immediate and often significant analgesic effect and increases range of movement which accelerates rehabilitation of most if not all musculoskeletal injury pathologies.
Pain relief from Kinesio Taping®
The method is a simple drug-free alternative that can immediately decrease pain and increase range of motion, to encourage muscle firing and normal movement patterns.
Applications can also encourage lymphatic fluid to move from areas of high pressure to low pressure and towards working lymph nodes. Kinesio Taping can also help to facilitate the stretch response and it is this specific elasticity that also will not allow an overstretch of the muscles themselves.
Kinesio Taping is based on a different philosophy that aims to give a free rein of motion in order to allow the body’s muscular system to heal itself bio-mechanically.
Without the tape:
There is pain and pressure on the pain receptors.
Blood and Lymph are trapped under the skin.
There is dysfunction.
With tape:
The top layer of the tape causes convolutions and lifts the skin.
Pain and pressure are reduced.
Blood and Lymph fluid are dispersed.
Pain-free Function is restored

At Hull Sports Massage, we use tape alongside massage, heat therapy, interferential and G5 vibration therapy to gain maximum effect from this modality.
Due to the reduced pain and spasm and the support offered by the Kinesio tape, the affected area is allowed to function, so:
Reduced pain + support + increased function = increased muscle strength + relief + repair
The information that these receptors send to the brain, causes a less reactive response in the body, allowing the body to work in a more normal manner and removing some of the roadblocks that normally slow down the healing process.
Some other benefits include:
Relieves pain
Supports the limb structure
Allows function
Supports muscles in movement
Removes lymphatic fluid congestion
Corrects joint misalignment
Assists in positioning a muscle or joint into the proper position for rehabilitation
Assists a weak muscle by placing it in a normal position
Improves kinaesthetic awareness of posture and alignment
Principally:
Pain receptors are being distracted to a point of ease (nociceptive pain fibres that are connected to muscle, tendon and ligaments are being decompressed and are being directed away to an area of a pain-free status).
Myofascia (the skin and tissue around our muscles) is supported under a principle of tensegrity or ‘floating compression’ a structural principle, based on the use of isolated components, in compression, inside a net of continuous tension and support – the myofascial matrix. This is basically the myofascial matrix of the body being supported like a net around our bodies.
